The Boxing Day WA Sprintcar Grandslam was a night for the younger generation of drivers to shine.
The first night on Bunbury Speedways new racing surface was a very positive one, with fast times and excellent racing. At the start of the night the time trials showed the way to some fast times. Local hero Jamie Maiolo, wheeling his LJM Produce, Maxwill Racing Engines Sprintcar, went out and set quick time of 13.51, one of the fastest times seen at the venue in years. Many tried after, until a fast Ben Ellement went out and set an identical time.
The heat races saw Jamie Maiolo dominate and Ken Sartori in his Cowara Contractors, Maxwill Racing Engines Maxim take out both of his heat races. The A Dash saw Maiolo take the win to start from pole, whilst in the B Dash, the Carahaul, Maxwill Racing Engines pilot Shaun Bradford took the win to start on the outside of a Maxwill front row. From the outset Kris Coyle, starting from position 3 was on the charge in his Remote Areas Concrete, Maxwill Racing Engines, Murphy. Mid race he put a brilliant pass on Bradford and from there was never headed, even experiencing a restart, but this was not to slow the 19 year old from driving to his first ever Sprintcar feature win in his short career.
Rounding out the positions was Shaun Bradford in second place and Ken Sartori in third, making it a clean Maxwill Racing Engines sweep of the podium.
